Year 3 Gerringong Public School Student Zoey Colours to Win.
CareSouth launched their annual primary school colouring competition in the southern region of NSW. In an effort to attract more community volunteers, colouring-in forms have been circulated to more than 158 primary schools and 43,000 students in Wollongong, Kiama, Jamberoo, Nowra, Ulladulla and Batemans Bay. The colouring-in entries will be judged according to accuracy, creativity and sense of colour. Local primary school students could win one of 16 family fun days by entering into the competition.
“Our colouring-in form depicts children enjoying a day of outdoor activities at the beach—including fishing, surfing, kite-flying, soccer, gardening and building sand castles,” said Clare Wilson, Aunties & Uncles Program Manager. “It is a graphic illustration of how this program lifts children from the stress of their home life and gives them memories and experiences that they will treasure for a lifetime.”
Aunties & Uncles links community volunteers with children up to 12 years of age from families who could benefit from support. Generally the child or young person is given an opportunity to experience life with another family by spending one weekend a month with them. The program is based on the belief that giving time, friendship, care and guidance can help build a child’s self esteem and confidence.
“We hope that the competition will increase awareness of this fantastic program and encourage more families to volunteer to spend time with another child, for a weekend once a month,” said Ms Wilson.
“We are overwhelmed with the community support that exists for this volunteer program. We now have more than 120 volunteer aunties and uncles and 75 children between Helensburgh, Batemans Bay and the Southern Highlands. But there are so many children still in need. Our vision is to be able to link every child that is referred to us with an appropriate volunteer family,” she said.
Colouring-in competition entries close 6 May 2011 and winners will be drawn on 10 May 2011. For colouring-in competition updates, please visit CareSouth’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/pages/CareSouth/193620010655471?v=wall
