Mentor Program

The CareSouth Mentor Program provides a structured and trusting relationship for young people by bringing together caring individuals who offer guidance, support and encouragement.

The main focus of the CareSouth Mentor Program is to assist young people to develop life skills, build on their strengths, and fulfil their potential.

Who can be in the Program?

Children and Young People between the ages of 10 to 18 years of age are eligible for the Program provided they meet the following criteria:

  • Children and young people who are in OOHC, 10 to 16 years of age
  • Young people “ageing” out of OOHC or living in supported independent living programs, 16 to 18 years of age
  • Children and young people still at home who require support within the family or at school, 10 to 18 years of age

    Mentors in the Program

Our team of professional Mentors who meet selection criteria are assessed as suitable and receive initial formal training with ongoing professional development and supervision.

Mentors and Mentees are individually assessed and ‘matched’ according to individual profile criteria. Our team of Mentors spend an agreed number of hours at a regular time with young people on a one-to-one basis. Both parties are encouraged to commit to the CareSouth Mentor Program for at least one year or an agreed upon time frame.

Goals are discussed and established with the young person. Regular reviews are conducted in reference to the Mentor Plan in order to achieve positive outcomes and identified goals.
