Welcome to CareSouth

What makes CareSouth unique is our commitment to service excellence. As a local community-based organisation with a big heart, we are bold, determined and innovative in our style. Through programs like Family Preservation, Aunties & Uncles, Permanency Support and Foster Care, Shoalhaven Youth Support Services, Residential Care, NDIS and Disability Services and Family Connections we are committed to children, young people, families and people with disability.

Based in Southern and Western NSW, we have offices across the Illawarra, South Coast, Southern Tablelands and Western NSW.

At CareSouth we are passionate about, and committed to, building strong communities. We enhance and strengthen the lives of those we work with and we seek to inspire each other and the
communities in which we operate – through excellence in service delivery and by always doing what we say we will do.

Our Vision

Embracing communities with kindness and humility to build a better future.

Strategic Plan

CareSouth’s 2026-2030 Strategic Plan is currently being developed, and we look forward to sharing our future direction and goals with you soon as we work toward our vision of building a better future for the communities we support. In the meantime, here’s our previous strategic plan that has helped guide us for the past three years: Our Strategic Plan

Our Founder

In 1992, CareSouth founder, Jim McEwan, attended a town meeting regarding the impending closure of the only youth shelter in Nowra. He was shocked to find himself conscripted to the new management committee faced with the task of saving the refuge. About the same time, Jim agreed to help set up an Aunties & Uncles program in the Shoalhaven. He amalgamated the two services forming Shoalcare, later to be called CareSouth.
