SleepSafe Donation Helps Homeless Youth
CareSouth would like to thank StreetSmart and bedding company Sheridan for their generous donation of 42 SleepSafe kits for our homeless youth and disabilities programs.
Learning to Relax is Key to Calm, Confident Kids
Seven young children sit quietly and listen carefully for the sound of the bell to stop. Only then can they open their eyes. The group is completely still and focused. It is hard to believe that just moments before one of the youngsters, a six-year-old boy, was zigging and zagging around CareSouth’s Berkeley Community Hub at top speed. Now he is like a Zen master, silent and still on his “magic carpet” mat while Relax Kids facilitator Di Riley takes the group through a series of mindfulness and relaxation activities.
Students Serve up a Christmas Feast
On the first Thursday of each month CareSouth’s Community Hub turns into a communal restaurant, complete with its own in-house culinary team.
The team of six chefs often take diners on a world tour with themed meals including a Mexican Fiesta, a Chinese New Year celebration dinner, and a traditional three course Christmas feast complete with glazed ham.
Christmas Chaos into Christmas Calm
Christine Gregory, one of CareSouth’s Senior Clinicians, leads the Illawarra clinical services team including a speech pathologist, occupational therapist, and psychologist. Having worked as a psychologist for more than 15 years, Christine has a wealth of experience and is committed to supporting our children, young people and carers. Christine has shared some insights on managing the stress of the festive season to help make it a joyful time for families.
Limited Health Hub Spots Still Available
CareSouth’s Health Hub program, which first rolled out in our Berkeley Community Hub three years ago, is one of the organisation’s most successful and fastest growing services. The free community health checks include dental, optical and hearing, as well as speech and occupational therapy assessments, for up to 50 young people at a time in one convenient location.
