Applying to join the CareSouth team

Your application is the first (and sometimes only) way the Human Resources team will learn about you. Make it the best you can, so the people reading it get to know you.

When applying for a role at CareSouth, or any job really, there are a few things you may want to check before sending an application.

Read the Job Advertisement and Information Sheet

If this is the job for you, make sure you have read all the information you can before you start your application.

Find out about the organisation and what programs they run.

Address the Selection Criteria

Most roles at CareSouth have selection criteria (or essential criteria) listed in the Job Advertisement. This outlines the skills, experience and qualifications we need. When writing your application, make sure you address all the criteria.

Check your Resume

  • Is it up-to-date? Are your contact details correct? Is it easy to read?
  • Is your current employer listed on your resume?
  • Are all your qualifications listed? Referees:
  • Are your referees previous Managers or Supervisors?
  • Have you told your referees you’re are actively seeking work?
  • Have you updated your referees’ names and contact numbers?
  • Are your referees relevant to this job?
  • Can they explain what you do in detail?

The NEW Working With Children Check

As you may be aware, the New Working With Children Check has commenced in NSW as of the 15th June 2013. All Applicants applying for roles with CareSouth will need to apply for the new check.

Each role we advertise at CareSouth will specify if a Working With Children Check is required. You should apply for the check before the closing date as if you progress to an interview, you will be asked to provide the details of the check.

Application process for New Working With Children Check

Workers and volunteers will have a simple two-step process for getting a new Working With Children Check after the 15th June 2013:

Step 1. Go to http://www.kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au/Working-with-children/working-with-children-check, click Start Here, fill in an online form or call the helpline to have someone fill in a form for you.

Step 2. Take the application number to a motor registry or government access centre, pay the fee and have your identity confirmed (you will need to take appropriate identification with you i.e. Birth Certificate, Passport, Drivers license, Medicare card etc)

Once you have received your application number and had your identify verified, you will need to provide the following details to CareSouth:

  1. Full Name,
  2. Date of Birth and
  3. Working With Children Check Application number or copy of receipt.

CareSouth will then authorize this through our employer login and record the outcome on your file.

How much does it cost?

The new Working With Children Check will cost $80 for paid workers and self-employed people for a five-year period. There is no fee for volunteers, authorised carers, adults living in a carers home, students on placement and prospective adoptive parents.

Your working with children check will remain valid for 5 years from the date of application. You will be able to use this across multiple organisations. Examples: for any volunteer work, or work with your children’s school or sporting groups.
