CareSouth would like to thank StreetSmart and bedding company Sheridan for their generous donation of 42 SleepSafe kits for our homeless youth and disabilities programs.

StreetSmart – a fundraising body which links business and corporate sponsors with community groups working in the homeless sector – partnered with Sheridan to launch the successful SleepSafe Christmas appeal last year. Money raised was used to buy sleep kits – which include a Sheridan towel and single sheet set – for society’s most vulnerable members. Kits were distributed to organisations across Australia this month, and CareSouth received 42 sleep kits, the maximum allocated to each successful recipient.

Sleep kits will be used at our Nowra disability service and Shoalhaven Youth Support Service for clients who are in crisis accommodation or moving on to transitional housing or independent living. To date more than 3000 sleep kits have been donated to those in need.

StreetSmart CEO Adam Robinson said the 2019 Christmas Appeal had a great response from StreetSmart supporters and allowed the organisation to move a step closer to its mission of providing a safe and secure home for everyone.

We believe no one should be without a safe and secure place to call home,” said Adam. “It is a basic human right. Ending homelessness will take a whole of community response. We are a unique bridge between the community and grassroots agencies that assist people experiencing homelessness at the point of real need. We support critical services and emergency aid as well as projects that promote social inclusion, empowerment and sustainable change for people who are homeless.”

Sheridan Group General Manager Paul Gould said the company’s goal is to provide 25,000 sleep kits across the nation.

“For every $15 raised through the SleepSafe initiative, we will provide a sleep kit to an Australian in need,” said Paul. “You can never underestimate the benefits of having clean bed linen, a fresh towel, a shower and a bed to sleep in for the night. You can make a difference in someone’s life by donating $2 or more online or in-store.”
